This has been bubbling up for a while. FB and Instagram are no longer viable markets for, well, marketing (though I do still try). I haven’t bought ad space there in years, probably since the Pandemic. Why? Because the ads didn’t work — they never worked. I can’t remember a single time giving Meta money benefited me in any way whatsoever. All my ad dollars on FB did was invite trolls & bots to disagree with the ads. Like, wtf? If it weren’t for FB being the only way to stay in touch with faraway family, I’d chuck the whole lot — FB, Insta, Messenger, Whatsapp, et al.
So, you will have to forgive me for throwing in an ad or two here, just to get some eyeballs on my work so I might be able to buy groceries or gas or pay a bill next month.
I’m also working out details to set up a subscription box for readers who pay a specific dollar amount here. If that’s something you think you might be interested in, leave a comment here saying so.
Here goes ~
Little Ebook of Incense ~ The Little Ebook of Incense is just that, a little digital book with eight incense formulations that were created at The Scented Djinn Apothecary and sold on Etsy between 2016 and 2018.
This Ebook is less about how to create incense than it is about the artistic value, creative inspiration, and the sheer magic of incense. By most standards, I am relatively new to incense making, but I feel like I ‘got it’ very early on. One evening while crushing the materials used in Kyphi (Edfu/Greek Era, not Ebers/True Egyptian Era), I happened to have chosen a nice chunk of antique orris root gifted to me by a fabulous natural perfumer friend, and it was while crushing this orris root and zoning out (some call it meditating...) I became aware of the most intoxicating scent wafting over me. I felt entirely enveloped by this scent, but I was completely disconnected from what I was doing (crushing herbs and mentally sailing away in a world of my own creation) and went on an olfactory hunt for the source. I sniffed my shirt sleeve, and then my skin, and it dawned on me in Homer Simpson fashion (doh!) that it was emanating from the mortar in my lap – it was the lush, sweet, heady, candy-like violet scent of orris root. It was at that moment that the connection between the materials, the ritual of creation/resurrection, and the final product that I saw
the whole picture of what incense is. It is a being as alive and mystical as we are. At least that is how I see it.
Incense Formulations in the Little Ebook of Incense include:

Vetyver Compounded Incense

Huh. I haven't even bothered to mention (much) about my perfumes and don't think I've ever really mentioned Gaia's Garden Herbals. Very early on, when I had about 30 subsribers, I wrote a couple of pieces about our senses. Maybe I should come up with a short piece and include my little business in it since I have more subscribers now. My experience with social media and marketing is similar to yours. And what's also frustrating to me, is the even people who have purchased my stuff and love it (so they tell me anyway), simply don't share if I post about a new product or even a sale in my Etsy shop. It's extraordinarily frustrating.
